Gauge doesn't send anything to me. There is no Gauge account, no Gauge server, no analytics and no crash reporting, in the app or on this site.
What the app reads on your Mac
Only what it needs to show your usage, and it never changes any of it:
- Claude:
~/.claude.json,~/.claude/projects(for how full each Claude Code session is), Claude's usage history file, and the "Claude Code-credentials" item in your keychain. macOS asks you before Gauge can read the keychain item. - Codex:
~/.codex/sessions. - Cursor: its local settings database, read only.
- Gemini, Grok and OpenCode: the login files their own tools already keep in your home folder.
- GLM: an API key, only if you put one in
~/.gauge/glm-api-keyyourself. - Antigravity: whether it is installed and running, through the process list.
Who the app talks to
Each provider directly, with the login you already have, only to ask how much of your plan is used:
- Anthropic (
api.anthropic.com), Cursor (api2.cursor.sh), Google (cloudcode-pa.googleapis.com), xAI (cli-chat-proxy.grok.com, which also gets your xAI user id), Z.ai (api.z.ai) and OpenCode (opencode.ai). - GitHub Copilot and Higgsfield through their own command line tools (
ghandhiggsfield). Those tools make their own requests with their own logins; Gauge never sees those tokens. - Ollama and Antigravity on your own Mac (
127.0.0.1). Nothing leaves the machine for those two.
One optional setting, off by default, keeps your Claude login fresh by sending a one-word prompt through the claude tool. That uses a tiny amount of your own Claude quota.
What the app keeps
A folder at ~/.gauge with each account's email, organisation, plan and usage numbers, plus small files that remember context window sizes and when to retry. Its settings (which rings are hidden, collapsed or not) live in macOS preferences. None of it leaves your Mac. To remove everything, quit Gauge, delete the app and delete ~/.gauge.
Updates
Gauge checks for new versions by downloading a small file from this site. Like any web server, the host sees your IP address and which version of Gauge is asking.
This website
No cookies and no analytics. The site is hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested.
